Hello there! I have hardly had a minute to blog all week, due to one thing and another, and I very much look forward to having some catch-up time to read what everyone else has been doing. In the meantime, I thought you might be amused by this story:
If you’ve ever had the good fortune to drive from Portland, Oregon up to beautiful Mount Hood, you will have passed through the town of Boring, Oregon. And it might surprise you to know that Boring is home to a thriving community of deaf people. After Boring, the road up the mountain takes you through the settlements of Zigzag and Rhododendron. (I’m not making this up.)
Well it seems that some enterprising folks in Scotland have forged a link with Boring, Oregon. They are the residents of the town of Dull, in Perthshire! They contacted the people in Boring and asked if they could set up some kind of linkage, and the good folk of Boring said yes. You can read more about it here.
I hope everyone’s having a good end-of-the-week with fun things in store for the weekend.
Christine, this is so funny…when your post came up I thought hmmmm
[Misery loves company?]
Christine has a mountain like Mt. Hood….in Scotland? Then I read your
post. I actually live in Boring, OR, but have a Gresham mailing address.
I have only lived here about 2 1/2 years so am just learning about the area. I did not want to get teased about living in Boring, so was glad we can use the Gresham address, but I think it is hilarious that someone got the brilliant idea of having Dull, Scotland as a sister city for Boring

This is a match made in Heaven! I love this idea. I have actually passed through Boring myself on my way to the Mountain and wondered how it could have earned such a name! Now I know. The Scots are so enterprising! I hope it helps Dull with tourism. xx

Cute post! I have now been in the Pacific Northwest for 5 years and have actually never taken the Mt. Hood highway nor seen Mt. Hood up close! Think we need to do that. It’s beautiful!

My son and his wife nearly settled in Bend, Oregon, and I thought that was quite funny. But they ended up in Lincoln City, which it pretty normal – except by European standards it’s a very small city.

Hi everyone, I’m glad this made you laugh. Don’t get me started on place names – we lived for four years in Normal, Illinois! (Now what town should that be twinned with?)
