The weather has continued to be cool, rainy and misty. But this very odd summer has compensations of its own:
There are no fireworks here on the 4th of July (to state the obvious!) but look at the explosion of this gorgeous flower, even in the soggy, grey weather:
I think this peony is very aptly named: Bowl of Beauty. It reminds me to open my eyes to the beauty that’s all around.

Two beautiful pictures! What an intricate spider web and I do love the “bowl of beauty”! Do you miss the 4th of July celebrations?

Who needs fireworks, when you have an explosion of colour like that, Christine? Stunning, amid the green and grey.

Wow, what a beautiful bloom! The misty greyness sets it off beautifully! I love how you see the positives in everything. xx

I love both of these photos and that pink is very striking against the green. You’re quite right, there is beauty to be seen everywhere if you keep your eyes open for it.

Even when the world is grey and miserable, beauty is all around us — thank you for that reminder!

Thank you everyone!
Dianne, I don’t really miss the 4th of July, and I think that’s because growing up, we never had a particular tradition of celebrating it – though I did enjoy going to see fireworks, and I remember sparklers. We do that on November 5th here.
The one American holiday Michael and I (mostly Michael) have kept going for the past 20 years is Thanksgiving, on a kind of modest scale and relocated to a weekend. It’s mostly Michael who keeps it going because Michael is the cook and likes feeding us. But I always make a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
Getting a bit ahead of myself, now! Yum.
