You’ll be glad to know I am not going to post a photo of my dear husband’s face just now. He had a nasty fall when his bicycle chain snapped and got tangled in his rear wheel spokes. He wasn’t going very fast, but went over the handlebars and landed on his face. Luckily he’s emerged with only a split lip and a broken tooth. After a morning at the hospital with a doctor who is very talented at stitching, and a day of taking it very easy, he’s up and about now.
Although it is rather pathetic to see him drinking his cup of tea from a straw, I’m just so grateful that it wasn’t any worse.
But the ambulance women said that if he hadn’t had his helmet on, he would certainly have broken his nose, smashed his glasses and possibly badly injured his eyes, concussed himself, etc. etc.!
Whenever I pass a cyclist who isn’t wearing a helmet, I always think (and sometimes say aloud, as if that would help!): “Please, please wear a helmet!” So I say it again today. And also, thank you to the two women who stopped to help us.
I’m stepping off my soapboax now!
