Back from the islands

We are not long back from the Isle of Harris, and also a few days in Benbecula.  I’m still uploading photos, and doing laundry – and I can’t wait to share our trip with you!  We stayed just around the corner from this view, by the painter Willie Fulton:

Harris Landscape, painting by Willie Fulton

For almost all of our week in Harris, the weather was sunny and beautiful!  The colours of the sea are amazing.  We came back tanned and midge-bitten.  So I will be back with some Outer Hebrides posts soon, including a trip to Willie’s studio and the gallery that he and his wife Moira have on Harris.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

  1. Oh, I’ve always wanted to go there!

  2. love the picture! looking forward to hearing more about your trip. 🙂

  3. Looking forward to learning about your stay on Harris. Having an okay week, so far.

  4. We’re having a lovely week here. It’s not a holiday to the isles (so jealous!), but it’ll do.

  5. You put me to shame. We did b&b here for almost ten years and I would send our guests to lovely places I still havent seen myself as we were waiting on said guests!
So looking forward to see what Harris is like.

  6. Welcome back! beautiful painting!

  7. Good to hear that the weather was kind to you all the way up in Scotland. Can’t wait to see photos of Harris and hear about the studio trip. Love the little painting. x

  8. What a gorgeous painting!

  9. Looking forward to it! We were on Skye recently, and looked longingly at the faint outline of Lewis on the horizon. What is it about the west that makes you long to go further west?

  10. What an absolutely glorious painting! I wish I could see that view in person. The only island I’ve visited is Skye, on my honeymoon. I’ve heard that the islands each have their own flavor, so to speak. I’d live to visit Harris some day.

  11. Dear everyone,

Thank you all for your kind comments, I felt so welcomed home! Linda, I completely agree about the allure of the West. I’d always assumed it was because of my Wild West family roots, but maybe it’s a more general thing? Jill, maybe now you’ll have time to be a tourist yourself!

Yes, the painting is very lovely. We bought it in Aberdeen – one of those unplanned and “unwise” purchases that we’ve never regretted. It gives us such pleasure.

  12. That sea colour deserves that kind of big frame.
