September roses

I wrote a post last year about Aberdeen’s roses; this year’s summer weather has been so dismal that the roses haven’t been great.  But look at these beauties just by the side of the road:

Aberdeen municipal roses, September 2011. (Notice the little hoverfly!)

I hope your week is going well!

  1. Beautiful Christine, lovely colour, thanks for sharing

  2. Summer hanging on by a thread…but such a beautiful thread.

  3. Isn’t it crazy how the biggest blooms are often on the most neglected roses?

  4. my roses that I pampered and prune aren’t even that lovely! those are beautiful. Have a great week!

  5. these are beautiful, Christine. thanks for sharing them. i love roses and i have no idea why this is happening but the bushes at my house seem ready for round 2 … lots of buds on at this late date. i’m excited! the color of your roses here is gorgeous and i’m wondering if they have a strong scent.

  6. Oh these are just beautiful.
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. They’re lovely. Absolutely lovely.

  8. My week is better for seeing your beautiful roses, actually.

  9. Dear All,

Thanks so much for leaving a comment – I love to see them! I’m glad you enjoyed the roses as much as I did.

Sigrid and Lisa – do you think plants sometimes bloom out of desperation, when they’re neglected and just about to collapse?

ajb – I didn’t on this occasion smell them, but for me a rose without a scent doesn’t qualify as a rose! I hope round 2 of your rose is a wonderful sight (and scent).

Martin – pure poetry: “but such a beautiful thread”!

  10. our roses are also better now, at the end of September, than they have been all summer through…
