Mother-of-pearl evenings

Although it’s still unseasonably cold (even for Aberdeen), the swing to our long summer nights remains as usual.   The sun sets now about 8:45 and we get 4 and a half more minutes of light every day.

I’ve been fortunate enough this past week to be able to go for evening walks.  A few nights ago, I saw the most beautiful mother-of-pearl clouds.  My photograph doesn’t do it justice at all, but can you see the pink and green in the clouds?

And the River Dee was similarly coloured on a recent evening walk:

Usually the daffodils along the river are all out at the beginning of April; this year they are just beginning to flower.  I’ll try to show you them in their full beauty when they’re at their best.

Happy rest of your weekend!

  1. I could see the pink and the green. What a beautiful spot. It must be gorgeous with the flowers in bloom!

  2. I love these subtle hues, but am also looking forward to bright, sunshine-lit crowds of glorious yellow daffodils, and woods full of vibrant bluebells. Come on warm weather!

  3. Your cloud pictures are wonderful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that kind of effect. I’m guessing it has something to with the light levels/angles in your part of the world?

  4. I do love your pics….and also getting a feel for your longer summer days! It intrigues me…from down here in the south

  5. I do love your pictures! I am also missing the daffodils here in Colorado, along with the greens of the grass, trees, etc. come on Spring!

  6. You’ve reminded me of the cold, clear clarity of the late afternoons in Aberdeen. The daffodils down here are actually starting to ‘go over’ – it’s warming up here but still wearing a coat! Judy.

  7. Lovely clouds. I am loving the longer days, but not the bitterly cold wind and all the rain. Congrats on the house, hope your move to Glasgow will be a smooth and happy one. 🙂

  8. Scottish skies can be so magnificent at times. I like your pictures. We saw some lovely bunches of daffodils and primroses while in Scotland recently on the west coast.

  9. So pretty!

  10. I did see the colors you mentioned. It must have been a beautiful walk.

  11. Beautiful photos! Hopefully, I will be able to reclaim my porch (a mama finch made a birds nest on my lamp post on the porch) and plant some flowers in pots soon!
